Hello, My Name is Paul Smith

TUESDAY

2018 Future Talent Fair

This Tuesday, Startup Grind hosts a tech exhibition for entrepreneurs, aspiring techies and corporations. Booths and an exhibition area for around 50 to 60 start-ups who are on the hunt for fresh talent will feature, along with 'over 5,000' attendees from China's top universities, tailored workshops for HR specialists and start-ups, an expert panel with leaders from Intel and loads more. Timmy Trumpet

Currently ranked number 43 on DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs list, Australian house DJ and producer Timmy Trumpet's fairly unusual in the world of electronic music. Previously on course to become an alumni of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music until his expulsion, Timmy's developed a style which falls halfway between live instrumentation (that's where the trumpet comes in) and a traditional DJ set.

Art is You: 1968 in France

The events of May 1968 marked an extraordinary moment in French history. During this wide-ranging political and social movement, artistic creation and activism were closely entwined. This exhibition begins by presenting artwork from the Atelier Populaire des Beaux-Arts, as well as photographic, newspaper and archival materials that document the fateful history of May and June 1968. It then concludes by exploring French intellectuals' obsession with foreign models, and especially those of China's Cultural Revolution, which influenced youth art of the time, both figurative and abstract.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

This fun, pacy addition to the dino disaster franchise doesn't do much that's particularly new – though what it does, it does with a fair whack of panache. Kicking off where Jurassic World left off, we find cloning corporation InGen picking up the pieces after the catastrophic collapse of its dinosaur park. Bad news though: not only is Isla Nubla now overrun with prehistoric critters, the island's dormant volcano is erupting and about to make them all extinct again.

Robb Banks

Before the recent explosion of South Florida rappers, which made stars of artists like Kodak Black, Ski Mask the Slump God and Lil Pump, Robb Banks was arguably one of the most promising out of the region. The Broward County native made a lasting impression in 2012 as an 18-year-old with his debut tape Calendars, a project that captured the early 2010s obsession with Three 6 Mafia-influenced lo-fi raps. Since then, Banks has gone on to release three more tapes, four EPs and his debut album Year of the Savage in 2015.

Protomartyr

Described as a 'formidable, vital band', Split Works pull in yet another great booking with Protomartyr's first visit to China. With a sound that's 'equal parts The Fall, Mission of Burma and Gang of Four', Protomartyr will bring a little darkness (in a very good way) to Yue Space, with support from Deadly Cradle Death.

Yinyang Music Festival 2018

This year's Yinyang Festival takes place as usual on the Great Wall with a bangin' line up of DJs, including Marcus Henriksson and Jack de Marseille. But the fifth-anniversary special of this legendary party also has a twist: a proportion of proceeds will go towards an ecological project in Tianjin.

Mr Big

Best known for international smash hit 'To Be With You', old-school American rock supergroup – Eric Martin on vocals, Paul Gilbert on guitar, Billy Sheehan on bass and formerly, Pat Torpey on drums – Mr Big are heading to Beijing with a global farewell tour after 30 years together and a new album Defying Gravity.

SUNDAY

Shanghai Ballet: Swan Lake

NCPA. Sun 17-Mon 18. 160-600RMB

Choreographed by British ballet maestro Derek Deane, this sumptuous production of Swan Lake features 48 swans making up the corps de ballet, instead of the standard 16. Renowned for his work with the English National Ballet, Deane has a formidable reputation in the field of big arena productions (and rightly so).
